Chemical Peels: Types of Peels, Benefits, Cost | Saraswat Hospital

Chemical peels involve a process whereby a chemical agent is applied to the skin, resulting in peeling, thereby removing parts of the skin that are damaged, ultimately leading to smoother, revitalized skin. It has often been applied to remove imperfections from the skin, including scars, wrinkles, and some, as a treatment option for acne and skin discoloration.

They exist as deep, medium, or light peels, depending on the quality of desired outcomes as well as skin needs. However, peeling increases cell renewal, thereby resulting in the formation of collagen; hence, it should not be carried out without a plan to manage peeling.

Best Chemical Peels Treatment

If your issues relate to skin problems like acne scars, skin tone, and hyperpigmentation, it influences your self-esteem and confidence in social events. Thus, chemical peels treatment becomes an ideal solution to these issues and ensures that your skin regains its youthful shine.

What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are usually purified fruit acids or lab-synthesized chemical solutions to improve the skin’s appearance. Peels reduce or enhance fine lines, acne and wrinkles. In this treatment, the solution applied to the skin works upon the layers of skin as targeted, shedding them off. Working in synergy with vitamins to promote cell renewal, the new skin is usually more supple, lighter, and smoother than the old skin.

Benefits of Chemical Peel Treatment

Chemical peels are usually done on the face and neck but can be used on the back, and upper and lower limbs too. Here are the benefits of chemical peel treatment:

Types of Peels

Chemical Peels

Alpha Hydroxyl Acid Peels (AHA): Primarily derived from fruits.

Glycolic Acid Peel: Most widely used to fade pigmentation, reduce fine lines, treat age spots, and improve upon almost all skin types.

Lactic Acid Peel: Most mild acids do skin rejuvenation for dry, sensitive, and lusterless skin.

Beta hydroxyl Acid Peel (BHA): A Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) peel exfoliates the skin, unclogs pores, and reduces acne, making it ideal for oily and acne-prone skin.

Salicylic Acid Peel: Wonderful for acne-prone skin, even those with active acne.

Combination Peel – Jessner’s Peel: An example of a blended self-neutralizing peel is even better for more aggressive acne. A boon for those suffering!

Done in different concentrations 20%, 35%, 50% and 70% it gives the desired effect. it gives an apparent impression of skin burn which is shed off in 8- 10 days.

How is a Chemical Peel Treatment Carried Out in Saraswat Hospital?

Our Chief Clinical Cosmetologist Dr. Preeti Saraswat helps in making this decision based upon a computerized examination of your skin by a tool known as “Dermascope” thus deciding the most appropriate type of treatment for you.

Usually, light-skinned people are better candidates for chemical peel treatment. But dark-skinned people can also benefit from the procedure with due care regarding priming procedure and after-care which is equally important for light-skinned people too.

Very prominent grooves, frown or worry lines, crow’s feet lines ( at the corners of eyes), severe eye sags, jowls, and marionette lines need other procedures too like thread lifts, face lifts, and so on.

Before You Get a Chemical Peel

We may ask you to stop taking or applying some of the things you are using and prepare your skin by using other medications for priming of skin. To ensure the best results we at Saraswat Hospital would work out meticulously what you require, what your expectations are, and how we go about it!!

After You Get the Chemical Peel

Skin temporarily becomes more sensitive to the sun, so you will have to apply sunscreen thrice a day i.e. at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. In the Indian scenario, it's best to use an SPF of around 40-50. Limit your time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and if possible wear a wide-brimmed hat, or cover your face with thick cotton cloth in the sun.

Micro Peels

Micro peels contain some of the gentlest ingredients available in a chemical peel. A Micro Peel is a solution that exfoliates the skin, removing dead cells while promoting growth in the healthy layers underneath. The active ingredient varies by brand but is usually glycolic or lactic acid. These acids are diluted to the point that they dissolve dead cells gently without damaging living tissue. For those with sensitive skin, Micro Peels are far less harsh than other chemical exfoliants.

How Much Does A Chemical Peel Treatment Cost in India?

The cost of the chemical peel treatment varies in accordance with the kind of chemical peel procedure as well as the number of sessions it will take to complete. This will be made known to you during your consultation appointment itself.

FAQs

Well! let me ask you to come with me on a mental ride— imagine a situation in which u take a rest lying down, your eyes closed listening to soothing music a few times at a few month intervals, taking good care of yourself for those months to find a smoother new skin after that period, wouldn’t you like it!! This is what chemical peel does, it peels off the upper layer of dull dead skin to bring fresh new skin from below ( in a patient with good skin colour and thickness with all parameters of safety the results are pretty good).

Before you undergo a chemical peel, a thorough skin analysis is conducted to find out the most suitable procedure for you. A patch test is also done on a small area of your skin to assess the skin’s reaction before proceeding with the whole area.

Compromised kidneys, a history of allergies, and pregnancy are some of the contraindications. A personalized care policy should be offered to the candidates after a full evaluation of skin type, condition & expectations.

We provide everything you need to protect yourselves after a peel with our “SMOOTH SKIN – HEALTHY HAIR” program, – sunscreens, antibiotic creams, moisturizers, and so on but you have to let the skin settle down, let it rest. Depending upon the depth of the peel – superficial and medium peels need to be repeated within a fortnight to a month, enzyme peels within 10 to 15 days, and deep peels after 3 to six months if at all.

We can say that most patients achieve their desired results in one session, and it depends on the extent of hair loss and the availability of grafts. However, in cases of advanced baldness, additional sessions may be required to get the desired results.

Again depending upon the depth of the peel effect may be seen within a few days to months and may last up to months or years together. Touch-ups may be required for maintenance.
