High Density Hair Transplant in India - Combined FUE & FUT Technique

Hair transplant surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic techniques, in recent times, due to the increased number of people suffering from Androgenetic Alopecia. The techniques performed for the best results have often shown plugged results in the past. Over the years, though, hair transplant surgery has seen several surgical innovations, and with the number of advancements in the area, we are going more towards providing natural results. These technological advancements have made high density hair transplant in India a comfortable and effective procedure for both the surgeon and the patient.

Which High Density Hair Transplant Procedure is the Best?

The two primary techniques used for hair transplant surgery is FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) also known as the Linear Excision Method, and the FUE (Follicular Unit Excision). These techniques can be differentiated by the method of extraction of the healthy follicular units from the scalp and have been known as the finest procedures that deliver the best results.

The FUT technique takes a strip of scalp containing healthy hair follicles from the safe donor area before getting it under a microscope to sliver them into individual units. This procedure is ideal for those who those suffering from a Norwood Grade IV or V hair loss where it can provide up to 3500 grafts. The FUE technique, on the other hand, directly extracts the individual grafts from the area and implants them to the recipient or balding area. This procedure, however, is ideal for facial hair transplants as it could retrieve around 2500 grafts in a session.

Since both of these methods are suitable for hair transplant surgery based on the patient condition and requirements, the debate surrounding which one is superior is always on. A crucial factor taken into consideration while deciding the technique used to perform high density hair transplant in India is the number of follicles required to reach the desired density.

How can Combined FUE+FUT help in High Density Hair Transplant in India?

At Saraswat Hospital, we offer the best of both worlds when it comes to high density hair transplant in India in the form of a combined FUT + FUE surgery. Typically, patients undergo such a drastic aesthetic surgery to get the maximum coverage and high density when they suffer from extreme baldness. In our quest to deliver the best results, we have adopted a modern approach that helps extract the maximum grafts through a combination surgery.

The Norwood grade VI and VII of baldness are known as advanced extensive bald stages that create a large extent of bald area with only a few strands left behind at the back and side of the head (typically known as a safe donor area left undisturbed by the effects of Androgenetic Alopecia). To derive the best results even for such patients, we perform a combination treatment that allows the extraction of around 4000 grafts in a single session.

Through this technique, we use the FUE method of graft extraction through a round 0.75 mm punch device with a low-torque and low-RPM. The safe donor area, more often than not, is underneath the chin (shadow area) to get the best results in case of low donor follicles.

Over the course of a few years, the ABHRS (American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery) certified doctors at Saraswat Hospital have performed several such combination procedures with excellent results at an affordable hair transplant cost in Delhi.

How is the Combination High Density Transplantation Procedure Performed?

First off, the professionals use a special cocktail of multiple anaesthetic agents to administer local anaesthesia on the patient so that he or she doesn’t feel any pain, but is awake throughout the surgery. The graft harvesting is then performed by combining both the methods where the FUT technique is used to harvest the maximum grafts, and the FUE used to retrieve the residual number.

In the FUT part of the high density hair transplant procedure, approximately 1-1.5 cm of scalp strip is extracted from the side and back of the head based on the required grafts and skin laxity. Around 2 cm of the area under the recently harvested strip is left untouched for any further progressive hair loss in the future. This, in itself, is responsible for contributing around 3500 grafts in a single session to be dissected to get individual grafts.

In the FUE part of the high density hair transplant procedure, performed after the FUT section, the professionals extract the residual number of grafts. Through this technique around 500 to 1000 grafts can be extracted which prevents overharvesting and reduces the damage rate of the grafts. It also helps to avoid density depletion of the donor site and any violation of the safe donor site.

Once the grafts are harvested, the individual follicular units are transplanted at the desired recipient area. The skill and expertise of the surgeon play a major role at this stage to achieve the most natural-looking results with the correct arrangement and angulations of the grafts. The multiple thick grafts extracted during the FUE method are planted from the third row so that the area gets maximum coverage. The final hair transplant cost in Delhi is calculated based on the price per graft multiplied by the number of grafts added to GST.

When Should One Undergo Combined FUE+FUT Hair Transplant Surgery?

Typically, undergoing a FUT or FUE procedure can be an excellent solution to your hair thinning or balding condition. But there are certain cases when there is nothing better than opting for a combined FUT + FUE procedure for the best results. Some of such extreme cases include:

  1. Low rate of donor hair follicles
  2. Progressing pattern baldness
  3. Extensive baldness
  4. High demand for a high density hair transplant
  5. The demand for natural results even with advanced baldness

What are the Benefits of Undergoing Combination FUT + FUE Hair Transplant?

Saraswat Hospital and the team excelling at the centre make use of modern equipment and cutting edge technology to perform the surgery and deliver world-class outcomes. Some of the top reasons why combination techniques are preferred involve:

  1. The provision of harvesting larger grafts, making it ideal for those with extensive baldness
  2. The preservation of follicular grafts despite harvesting a larger number of them. This offers a long-term benefit to the patient.
  3. Aesthetically pleasing results that minimize any chances of scarring after complete recovery. The donor area is sutured into a Trichophytic closure which offers almost invisible scarring.
  4. When added to BHT (Body hair Transplant), this technique allows an increase in the coverage area.
  5. Low damage rate of the extracted follicular grafts when performed by experts

Since this procedure can take care of a larger recipient area with no side effects in a single session, it is known as one of the most sought-after techniques in hair transplant surgery.
