PRP Hair Transplantation India
Young or old, a little or a lot, hair loss is difficult for anyone to come to terms with. It affects one’s self-confidence and becomes a negative fixation for many. There have been a number of breakthroughs, though, to combat the frustration that is baldness. However, some operations produce little to no results or, if they do have a noticeable impact, sometimes they aren’t long-lasting. An optimal option for many is the combined treatment of follicular unit transplant (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE) for hair transplantation. Although, sometimes, this option appears intimidating because it requires surgery.
Recently, PRP hair transplantation has become an excellent alternative for those intimidated by the knife. The unique procedure produces noticeable results in a timely manner. Dr. Saraswat of Saraswat Hospital is an internationally-renowned hair restoration surgeon that utilizes current cutting-edge technology for hair restoration to create natural-looking hair. PRP hair transplantation is used by him and his staff extensively, sometimes paired with Low-Level Laser Therapy or derma rollers to improve results.

What is PRP Hair Transplantation?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) hair transplantation involves the injection of a patient’s blood into their scalp. This sounds strange, doesn’t it? Despite its strangeness, platelet-rich plasma is recognized for benefitting several afflictions, not only a thinning scalp. Platelet-rich plasma is proven to effectively stimulate tissue growth, which in return, quickens the natural healing process of wounds or injuries. PRP has increasingly, in recent years, been used to stimulate dormant hair cells, which spurs hair growth.
Blood consists of red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma and platelets. Although platelet-rich plasma is extracted from the blood, there’s a particular process to refine it so it’s suitable for use. After Dr. Saraswat collects a patient’s blood from their arm, he’ll place the vial of blood into a centrifuge. A centrifuge is essentially a rapidly rotating container that gradually separates fluids based on density. Once the vial of blood has been rotated, the contents of the blood will be separated, which then allows platelets to be extracted. Using a special syringe, Dr. Saraswat then collects the platelet-rich plasma from the vial.
There are a number of growth factors and proteins found in PRP, including platelet-derived growth factor, platelet factor interleukin, platelet-derived angiogenesis factor, and epidermal growth factor. These various growth factors promote tissue healing by giving instructions to your skin cells to regenerate and multiply.
After the PRP is created, Dr. Saraswat will numb the scalp and use a derma roller to encourage stimulation on the scalp. The PRP injections are then strategically injected into sites on the scalp, where they would be most beneficial for a patient. The entire process takes approximately 45 minutes.
What to Expect After Receiving a PRP Hair Transplantation
Shortly after treatment, a patient can expect to feel pressure and tenderness around the scalp. However, these sensations only last for several days post-treatment. Typically PRP hair transplantation requires a series of treatments over 4-6 weeks, so improvements are gradually noticed. The procedure is recommended to be done several times per year to ensure optimal results are retained.
Although PRP hair transplantation doesn’t completely regrow hair or create new hair follicles, the treatment does provide noticeable improvements in growth, thickness and density within weeks. Even though PRP hair transplantation can’t completely revive areas affected by baldness, the platelet-rich plasma will prove rich nutrients to areas of the scalp where hair follicles are still retained. By supplying rich nutrients, the plasma can either slow down or even prevent hair follicles from being disrupted by various forms of alopecia.
Who Makes a Good PRP Hair Transplantation Candidate?
Although PRP hair transplantation is an excellent option for those suffering from premature hair loss, sometimes it isn’t a necessary procedure, as with any hair transplant treatment. Dr. Saraswat will help gauge if you are a prime candidate. Men and women who the treatment is best suited for include:
- Those that are in the early stages of hair loss
- Those with thinning hair where hair follicles still function
- Those that lack blood disorders or diseases – this increases the risk of infection
- Those that don’t have chronic skin infections or dermatological issues
Given these considerations, there are some patients who PRP hair transplantation would be particularly beneficial for. Androgenetic alopecia, commonly known as male-pattern baldness, is the loss of hair in a well-defined pattern and PRP can potentially improve the condition. Diffuse alopecia, a condition in which hair density decreases all over the scalp, can also be possibly improved upon. As well, yearly treatments of PRP are useful for those that have received surgical hair transplants to maintain the integrity and even accelerate hair growth. It’s best though to meet with a hair transplant specialist to learn if a PRP hair transplant is right for you.
